Southern Thais to be Given Free Vocational Training

Free vocational training at Malaysian institutes will be provided for several youths of Southern Thai ? a move that is part of the aid promised to Thailand to assist the troubled southern region following recent clashes there.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the Government is expected to send vocational trainers to the region to impart to the inhabitants, vocational skills which would be useful in helping them to raise their standard of living. The details of the sponsorship, which is the latest idea being brought up by the Government, would be worked out by the special committee jointly chaired by Foreign Ministers of Malaysia and Thailand.

The committee will then decide on the forms of assistance to be provided to the southern Thais, which may include sending religious lecturers and vocational trainers to the area to give training to the youths.
