Training To Polish Skills

Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn said that the newly set up Unemployed Graduates Training Scheme offering six-month long training programmes were not meant to teach graduates new skills but to polish old ones. Offering language and ICT programmes, the training is to enhance the employability of trainees so that their ?soft skills? are honed to complement what they have already learnt after four years of tertiary education.

However, Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) executive director Shamsudin Bardan said the programmes are not relevant to the current employment scene and the suggested the courses be changed to correlate with the needs of the service industries instead. Dr Fong and MEF will meet up to discuss the matter further.
