The Advance Skill Training Institute for National Youth in Sepang, Selangor, was conceptualized in early 1987 as the Advanced Training Centre. It was later made an Institute, coming under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports before it became fully operational in May 1990.

Some of the objectives of IKTBN are:
? To provide intensive training in metalworking and engineering trades such as Tool & Dies, Machining, Maintenance and Electronics in accordance with the National Occupational Skill Standard (NOSS).
? To provide students from Vocational/Technical stream with the opportunity for upgrading of qualification and skills by offering courses of higher level (SKM 4/5 or Diploma Technology).
? To produce skilled workers in relevant fields to complement the requirement of domestic high technology industries.
? To provide short-term modular courses in the relevant trades for technicians from industries.

IKTBN plays a pivotal role in producing a pool of skilled workforce for the private and public sectors in the fields of manufacturing and industrial, which helps to ultimately promote the industrialization process of the country.

Course Outline

Two categories of courses are being offered at Institut Kemahiran Tinggi Belia Negara Sepang (IKTBN), which are full-time long-term courses and the short-term modular courses. Two types of programmes are offered under the former, namely, the Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) certification programme and the Diploma in Technology programme that is jointly offered with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, while short-term course are tailor-made to fulfill the specific requirements for related industries upon request.

Facilities

In IKTBN, trainees are provided with facilities like free board and lodging (for full-time course trainees only); free uniform and safety shoes; stipend of RM200.00 per month to cover personal expenses and RM370.00 per month for in-plant (industries) training; sports facilities and facilities; workshops complete with conventional and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and a controlled atmosphere Heat Treatment Plant; as well as fully-equipped laboratories for Electronics, Electrical, Pneumatic and Hydraulic training.
