Part-Time Vocational Courses for Undergrads
In an all-out effort to solve the country?s unemployment conundrum, the Human Resource Ministry has proposed that universities allow their undergraduates take up part-time vocational courses at the ministry?s industrial training institutes to equip them with the skills that match the requirements of the job market.
?University undergraduates in many developed countries take up double courses to prepare themselves for the outside world upon graduation?, said Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn, in backing the suggestion of allowing local undergraduates of universities and vocational institutes to ?shuttle from one lecture theatre to another?, as this could ultimately solve the current situation of local graduates being unable to find jobs.
He said universities could introduce flexible timetables so that their students could attend extra courses at night or during weekends.
