Skills Training Institute Set Up in Terengganu

The Ministry of Human Resources is set to build a RM230 million skills training institute in Terengganu following the high unemployment rate in both the state and Kelantan. According to Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakar, the new institute would be able to accommodate approximately 1,200 students at any one time.

Currently, there are 20 industrial training institutes and skills training centres nationwide, producing 17,000 workers each year, while seven more in the locations of Kepala Batas, Nibong Tebal, Kuala Langat, Sandakan, Miri, Selenda, and Mersing are expected to complete by this year.

Datuk Abdul Rahman added that the Ministry would encourage school leavers and unemployed graduates in Kelantan and Terenganu to enrol through initiatives such as seminars and campaigns. 10,000 unemployed school leavers and graduates in Kelantan and another 6,000 in Terengganu are said to have been identified by the Ministry for job recruitments which are at present undergoing negotiation with six multinational corporations.
